Arthritis Program
– Arthritis Foundation’s Arthritis
Self-help Course taught by a certified instructor to help people with
arthritis learn how to adjust their lifestyle to better cope with the
disease.
Breastfeeding Counseling
– International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
available to interested clients.
Cancer Services – Pap smear,
Breast Self-Exam Instruction, Mammogram, and Smoking Cessation

Monitoring and counseling on diet, exercise, and medication available by

Environmental Health Services
- Food services inspections, including retail food markets and
restaurants, and schools.
- Public facilities inspections, including hotels and motels, mobile
home parks, camps and swimming areas, school building and grounds.
- General sanitation services, including private water sampling,
rabies control, nuisance complaints, private sewage complaints.
- On-site sewage services, including site evaluations, inspections,
and permits.

Family Planning
– Services include: preconception risk screening, pregnancy
tests, annual pap smear, counseling,
and birth control methods. Charges are based on ability to pay as
determined by income and family size.
H.A.N.D.S
- A voluntary,
intensive home visitation program designed to assist first time parents at
critical development points during their child’s first year of life.

Male Clinic – Males age 15—29
are offered physical exam, which includes STD testing and counseling. Also
provided is counseling on sexual responsibility and pregnancy prevention.
Nutrition Services
– Nutritional counseling provided by a Registered Dietitian
to persons of all ages, including prenatal women, infants, and children.
The Pike County Health Department,
through the Kids NOW Initiative, provides free multiple vitamins to
childbearing women (ages 13-45) with any medical service.
Public Safety (Car Seats)
- child safety restraint check-up station to check for correct
installation and recall of car seats held periodically throughout the
county.

Tobacco Prevention Program
– Educates the public on the hazards of tobacco. One on one
and group counseling is available to assist in the cessation of smoking.
Tuberculosis Services - Skin
tests given Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Skin test readings
necessary two days after test is given. Also, provide screening,
counseling, preventive treatment, chemotherapy, and x-rays as needed.
Vital Statistics
- Department verifies births and deaths from 1911 to present. Provides
forms for birth and death certificates to local hospitals, nursing homes,
and funeral homes as well as the general public. Paternity forms also
available.

Well Child Program
(EPSDT)
- Preventive health care program for children birth to 21 years of
age. Provides health and developmental assessment, immunizations, and
referrals for diagnosis and treatment of acute illnesses. Free of charge
for those meeting income eligibility guidelines.
WIC (Women, Infants, Children)
- WIC is a federal program designed to provide food to low-income
pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children until
the age of five.

"The Pike County Health Department has 4
licensed safety seat technicians certified by NHTSA (National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration). They are: Suetta Clevinger, Lydia Robinson, Julia Ryan (H.A.N.D.S),
and Tammie Pavlik (H.A.N.D.S.).
Following is a basic car seat checklist
recommended by NHTSA:
* It is critical to read "Both" your
car seat manufacturer's instructions and your vehicle owner's manual.
* Infants should be secured in a rear facing
seat until they are at least ( 1 ) , one year old and at least 20 pounds.
* Children at least ( 1 ) , one year of
age and between 20 - 40 pounds should ride in forward facing seats.
* Don't forget boosters ! Children
from 40 - 80 pounds ( generally 4 - 8 years old ) need to ride in a belt positioning
booster seat .
* Children 12 and under are always safest when "
properly " restrained in a back seat .
* " Never " place a rear facing
infant seat in front of an air bag .
