POWER Coalition

Pike County Outreach for Wellness, Education and Resources

Who we are

The POWER Coalition is a collective group of Pike County business, education, community, and healthcare leaders that came together to improve the health and well-being of Pike County residents. The POWER Coalition was first organized in 2015 to complete a Community Health Assessment using the Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) process, which evaluated the areas in need of improvement in Pike County. The POWER Coalition is a call-to-action for local Pike County leaders and citizens to collaborate with one another in leading the Pike County community to a better well-being.

Our goals

The POWER Coalition is working to address three major health concerns within Pike County: 1) obesity; 2) substance abuse; and 3) unemployment. Our goal is to create evidence-based interventions directed toward these concerns through the collaboration of our Coalition.

Structure

The POWER Coalition is divided into four workgroups that collaborate together to address the three major health concerns within Pike County.

School Workgroup: If you are a school leader, representative, or advocate, the POWER Coalition’s school workgroup is an opportunity for you to share ideas on the effects of obesity, substance abuse, and unemployment on school-aged children and young adults, along with ways the Pike County schools can combat these issues.

Community Workgroup: If you are a community leader, representative, or advocate, the POWER Coalition’s community workgroup is an opportunity for you to share ideas and gain insights on the effects of obesity, substance abuse, and unemployment on residents of Pike County. This is a collective outlet for your or your organizations efforts towards combating these issues with a large group of individuals from different sectors of the community.

Healthcare Workgroup: If you are a healthcare leader, representative, or advocate, the POWER Coalition’s healthcare workgroup is an opportunity for you to share ideas on the effects of obesity, substance abuse, and unemployment on residents of Pike County along with innovated ways to help make people healthier. The POWER Coalition is a great platform for people in many different settings to come together to effectively and efficiently improve the healthcare, health, and lifestyle-habits of the residents of Pike County.

Worksite Workgroup: If you are a worksite leader, representative, or advocate, the POWER Coalition’s worksite workgroup is an opportunity for you to share information and ideas to increase Pike County’s workforce health and improve the bottom line through programs and education offered in obesity, substance abuse, and unemployment. The POWER Coalition can assist employers in promoting a healthy lifestyle through partnerships with community and healthcare organizations.
